What kind of place is Kasai Rinkai Park?

First of all, how much do you know about Kasai Rinkai Park? It is a tourist attraction that even some Tokyo residents have never been to, and those who live in other prefectures probably don’t even know it exists.
Kasai Rinkai Park is a metropolitan park that was redeveloped by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government in an effort to rebuild the environmentally destroyed nature of Tokyo Bay due to pollution and land reclamation. It is a very valuable natural park that is now home to birds and plants rarely seen in the city.
The park has a famous aquarium, an ornithology center, a Ferris wheel, and cafes and stores scattered throughout the park. If you live in Tokyo and have never been, please visit the park!
The most famous sightseeing spot in the park is probably the Kasai Rinkai Aquarium. The aquarium is full of impressive exhibits such as a school of bluefin tuna and penguins. Admission is 700 yen for adults, 250 yen for junior high school students, 350 yen for those over 64, and free for elementary school students and younger. Junior high school students residing in Tokyo can use the park for free, so bring your student ID book.
The official website of Kasai Rinkai Park is here.
There are three other barbecue areas, and in the summer it is also a wonderful place to enjoy nature and BBQ.I visited one of them, the Nagisa BBQ place, which opened in the spring of 2022, see below for details!
Access to Kasai Rinkai Park and the nearest station

Kasai Rinkai Park has many attractions, but it is also very accessible. The nearest station is Kasai Rinkai Koen Station, which can be reached from Tokyo Station without changing trains (Keiyo Line). The nearest station is Kasai Rinkai Koen Station, which is on the Keiyo Line ( Keiyo Line).
The Keiyo Line ticket gates are located on the south side of Tokyo Station, so if you are near the Yaesu Exit or on the north side, you will need to walk toward Yurakucho Station. Keep in mind that in some cases it may be closer to get off at Yurakucho Station!
Even if you are not coming from Tokyo Station, you can take the Rinkai Line, get off at Shinkiba Station, and transfer to the Keiyo Line to arrive at Kasai Rinkai Koen Station in one stop. This is the recommended access from Ikebukuro, Shinjuku, or Shibuya.
There is a fountain in front of the station, which is perfect for meeting people! There is also a bicycle parking nearby, so it would be fun to rent a bicycle in Tokyo and come here by bicycle!
If you are driving, Kasai Rinkai Park is located immediately after exiting the Kasai IC of the Metropolitan Expressway Bayshore Route. The parking fee is 300 yen for the first hour, with additional charges of 100 yen per 20 minutes thereafter. The maximum charge is 1,200 yen on weekdays, but please note that the maximum charge does not apply on weekends and holidays! The website also states that high denomination bills cannot be used, so please be aware of that as well.
There are only about 180 parking spaces, so it may be difficult to park on weekends, so access by train may be better!
About Nagisa Barbecue Grounds

This main introduction is about this Nagisa BBQ place! There are three BBQ areas in Kasai Rinkai Park, but the Nagisa BBQ area is located in the seaside plaza on the south side of Kasai Rinkai Park, on the ocean side.
This beach plaza consists of two eastern shorelines and a western shoreline, and is an artificial beach created for the purpose of protecting the natural tidal flats in Tokyo Bay (artificial sandy beach). The role of this artificial beach is to protect the tidal flats that would otherwise disappear because the rivers of Tokyo have been developed and improved, and much of the sand and mud do not naturally accumulate in the bay and downstream areas. In addition, the East Nagisa (left side facing the sea) is off-limits for nature conservation.
The Nagisa barbecue area is located on the western edge of the park and is a popular tourist spot in Kasai Rinkai Park, as it is open to visitors for non-barbecue use! Nagisa Barbecue Park offers an easy BBQ plan where you don’t have to bring anything to eat or drink except for beverages.
If you live in Tokyo and want to have a BBQ in the summer or fall, you have a lot of things to think about, such as equipment, food, and a car! However, if you take advantage of the BBQ plan at Nagisa Barbecue Park, you can just show up empty-handed and you’re good to go.
Reservations can be made through the website or by phone. If you have a large group or need to use the restaurant for a group, please call to confirm and they will be flexible to accommodate you. There are several types of meal plans available, from luxurious BBQ plans to standard reasonably priced plans. The service was really great, including a plan where you don’t have to clean up your equipment after the meal. BBQ near the ocean is exceptional!
This time we used the standard plan, which included BBQ ingredients (seasonings included), BBQ stove, charcoal, ignitor, firestarter, chairs, table, fan, various tongs, simple tableware such as disposable chopsticks and paper plates, cooler box, and refrigerant.
They are open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and during the summer months they are open until 5:00 PM. To learn more, please visit the official website here! Please note that the West Nagisa is open until 5:00 p.m., even if you are not using the BBQ!
The website is also available in English, and there were some foreigners among the BBQ guests. The BBQ place just opened this year, 2022, so many of you may not know about it, but please go there!
Advice for those going for sightseeing!

Now, I would like to write some advice for those who have not yet been to Nagisa BBQ place. First of all, please note that if you get off at Kasai Rinkai Koen Station and go straight down the main street in front of the fountain , you will not be able to get there!
If you are not confident, you can use Google Maps to pin it up.
Second, let’s talk about drinks. Drinks are not included in the BBQ plan, so you will need to purchase them before you head out. There are two convenience stores in front of the station, but both are very crowded on weekends, so you may want to buy a small amount in advance! Also, there are no paper cups available, so you will need to purchase one! If you forget to purchase one, don’t worry, there are vending machines at the Nagisa barbecue area!
A note about BBQ! There is no charge to bring your own tools and gear, but please note that tents and tarps that require pegs are prohibited. Only simple, freestanding tents may be used. BBQ areas are designated, so please be respectful and enjoy your BBQ. Also, you will need to make your own charcoal, so it is best to have one person who is familiar with BBQ so that you can feel at ease when making preparations.
It is still a little-known BBQ place in Tokyo, but it is expected to become popular from next year, so if you are interested, please go there!
