Speaking of camping, many of you are probably looking forward to the spectacular view, aren’t you? Many of these campgrounds with spectacular views are far from the interchange, or are located on twisting, narrow, and steep roads that make you nervous.
What if there was a campground with a spectacular view just 10 minutes away from the interchange? No, no, no…even if there is a campground near the interchange, you would think that there is no such thing as a spectacular view, wouldn’t you? But…there is such a campground! Such a campsite! And the view is spectacular!
It is Whistler Sky Base Komoro, located in Komoro City, Nagano Prefecture! This time, we would like to introduce “Whistler Sky Base Komoro ” where you can camp with a spectacular view within 10 minutes from the interchange.

Whistler Sky Base Komoro Access
Another attraction of Whistler Sky Base Komoro is its proximity to the interchange.
In fact, I think it took a little longer…maybe due to traffic conditions.
But in any case, it is definitely close!
The rest of the city is an hour and a half from central Tokyo!Although it was claimed on the website, ・・・・
It took me about two and a half hours to get there from the Tama area of Tokyo, where I live.
I recommend that you check the distance from your home and the route before you go.
Introduction of Whistler Skybase Komoro
One of the most attractive features of Whistler Sky Base Komoro is that every site has a clear view of the sky in front of it!
During the daytime, you can see Sakuhei, the Tateshina mountain range, and Yatsugatake (Mt. Yatsugatake) spread out below you, and at night you can enjoy the spectacular night view.
It is truly a campground in the sky that lives up to its name, Sky Base.
Please find your favorite site and go there.
(*We didn’t get pictures of all the sites, so only some of them are included.)

The sites are more than 200 square meters, ideal for groups and families, with plenty of room for solo group camping.

This is a completely private space surrounded by trees.
Because it is far away from other sites, you will not have to worry about your children frolicking.

Open fire and starry sky sites (4 sites)
You cannot see the night view, but you can enjoy the starry sky and beautiful mountains.
Open fires are allowed, which is rare in campgrounds.
Camping site (1 site)
This is an encampment site that is being worked on with the editorial department of “Fieider,” a magazine specializing in encampments.
The encampment sites are located just behind the “open fire/starry sky sites.
Center circle sites (3 sites)*Map Yellow
This is a large site of about 180㎡.
The site is hard to see the night view because of the site in front of it,
It is located on the upper level of the facility and is a very open area.
The E site at SkySite, where I was taken care of, is just right, with a level difference from the other sites and a sense of privacy that is well-protected.
Many people recommend Site B. This site offers the best view of Sakuhei, the Tateshina mountain range, and Yatsugatake, and a beautiful overall night view.
However, if you are going solo, I personally recommend “private site” S site.
Some people have said that it is difficult to see the night view, but from what I have seen, it does not seem to be the case!
It was not a full view, but rather a view peeking out from the shade of the trees.
The spectacular night view of Whistler Sky Base Komoro
The biggest attraction of Whistler Sky Base Komoro is not only the wonderful view of Sakuhei, the Tateshina mountain range, and Yatsugatake during the daytime, but also the night view that spreads out below after dark!
There were thin clouds on this day, but it was fantastic.
Facilities at Whistler SkyBase Komoro
I would like to introduce Whistler Sky Base Komoro’s facilities.
It just opened in October 2020 and everything is clean and well taken care of.
Administration Building
The administration building is open from 9:00 to 18:00.
Right in front of the administration building is an open terrace where you can enjoy alcoholic beverages and soft serve ice cream in the administration building.
What is surprising! The price!
Draft beer is 500 yen! There are 8 kinds of soft ice cream for 300 yen each. !!!!
And the best part is the low price of firewood! Hardwood is 500 yen and softwood is 300 yen.
Restrooms
Toilets are located behind the administration building.
They are kept very clean and free of unpleasant smells.
It is not a bidet, but it is a heated toilet seat.
It is safe even in winter.
Cooking area
The cooking area was also very clean!
And everyone loves it! It has hot water.
For 2,300-3,300 yen per night, this is a ridiculously high standard!
Hand soap, detergent, and a scrubbing brush were also always available.
It is a very thorough service.
There is a vending machine just behind the cooking area.
This is also a modest thank you!
Garbage Disposal Area
Most garbage can be thrown away free of charge.
Please note, however, that the collection hours are set from 8:30 to 11:00.
By the way, there are two cute goats behind the administration building.
Please come and meet them when you visit Whistler Sky Base Komoro.

Summary & Extra
We are pleased to welcome you to Whistler Sky Base Komoro.
It is still a new campground, opened in October 2020, and the facilities are clean and of high standard!
Rates are all low.
2,300 to 3,300 yen per night! Draft beer, 8 kinds of soft-serve ice cream, and even firewood are inexpensive!
And as the name “Sky Base” suggests, this was a campground in the sky where you could enjoy the overwhelming view of Sakuhei, the Tateshina mountain range, and Yatsugatake in the daytime, and the night view at night.
It is hard to find a campground with such a high standard and with such a spectacular view for this amount of money.
It is close to the interchange, or conversely, the convenience of being able to get to town quickly!
I recommend it for beginner campers as well, as it has a complete set of rental items!
I am secretly planning to stay in a private site next time I go lol.
Extra info!On my way back from camping this time, I visited Nunobiki Kannondo, which is built on a precipitous cliff, and I would like to briefly introduce it.
It takes about 15 minutes by car from Whistler Sky Base Komoro.
However, it is a rather steep mountain road to climb, so if you are physically fit, please stop by!
It’s a bit of a strenuous climb, but you will definitely be impressed by the view after the climb.
