CAMPING at Neseko with view of Yoteizan, Neseko River side hill camping ground

Don’t you yearn to camp surrounded by nature at the foot of Mt. We visited Niseko Riverside Hill, a campground in the heart of Niseko that few people know about, and would like to share the details and location with you.

Camping with a view of Mt. Yotei is spectacular!

Directions to the campground

First of all, I would like to conclude by saying that we basically recommend that you drive to Niseko Riverside Hill. It takes about 25 minutes to get there on foot from the town of Niseko, and it is not easy to carry camping gear on your back!

 ↓Approximate time ↓.

It takes less than two hours by car from Sapporo or less than two hours by car from New Chitose Airport. The journey by car should not be difficult, as there are many sightseeing spots and places to enjoy the natural beauty of Hokkaido.

If you are going by bus ↓.

Sapporo Station BT (bus) → Hondori [Niseko Town] approx. 2hr 50min 2130yen → 23min on foot

You can take the bus, but you will need to walk a bit from the bus stop. (This is for expert campers!).

It is convenient for tourists because it is located at a good distance from Sapporo and the airport, less than two hours by car. Surprisingly, the nearest buses and trains are also close by, making backpackers feel at ease.

It is only about 10 minutes from JR Niseko Station, so those who are confident in their physical strength are encouraged to come with backpacks on their backs!

*On the day we actually camped there, there were foreigner campers who came with carrycases, so it’s not impossible to camp on foot!

Open hours and recommendations around Mt. Yotei!

Check-in & Check-out Summary
check in time is between 13:00 and 20:00

*You need to contact them if check in will be later than 17:00)

Check out time is till 11:00

The caretaker may not be at the reception hut (he was not there when I visited), and if he is not there, you can call or see him directly at the site.

Check-in time is at 1:00 p.m., so it is also a good idea to stop by a nearby ranch or eating place for sightseeing before coming back.

A restaurant called Niseko Takahashi Ranch Restaurant PRATIVO, where a buffet was available, was a 10-minute drive away. ↓↓.

Check-out time is a leisurely 11:00, so you can have breakfast while enjoying the morning view of Mt.

Site type and location

There are two types of campsites: open auto sites and free sites. Open auto sites are usually limited to 9 cars and 15 cars during peak season, and are managed by the number of cars. *note; free sites doesn’t mean free price in Japan

We visited on a weekday at the end of May, and they gladly accepted us without a same-day reservation. On the day of our visit, there was one other camper and two groups in the free site, for a total of four groups.

The free site is limited to 10 solo campers, and since it is about a 13-minute walk from JR Niseko Station, walkers and bicycle campers often come.

Also, about half of the campers are from overseas.

In addition to the camp site, there is one guesthouse and three bungalows of different sizes.

Site Features!

▶︎ open auto sites

Parking spaces are pre-separated and cars can be laid out.

No particular location is assigned, and the style is such that you choose your favorite spot in order of arrival.

Yotei is hard to see in some parts of the auto site because trees are growing here and there. In summer, it looks cool because of the shade provided by the trees.

If you want to pitch your tent in a spot with a good view of Mt. Yotei, we recommend arriving early!

Incidentally, we were recommended the side of the bungalow and the back of the bungalow as the most popular, so we were able to camp with a perfect view of Mt!

view from site behind bungalow.

Yotei is lovely, of course, but the view of the mountains behind it is wonderful and soothing as well.

Extra (communication with owner) & summary

The owner’s campsite, which started as an extension of his hobby, has a gentle and soothing atmosphere.

The owner, who showed us around the campground after registration, was friendly and made a very good impression on us. While we were relaxing and enjoying camping, he showed up with a light truck and gave us freshly picked asparagus, saying, “I just picked some in the field.

Before arriving at the campsite, I stir-fried them with Furano cheese garlic oil that I had procured. Fresh vegetables grown in Hokkaido. Too delicious…!

How was it?

I visited on a weekday at the end of May, so I was accepted on the same day, but I heard that it gets crowded during the summer, so I recommend that you call and make an appointment before you go.
