How outdoor education is valuable. Learn from Mother Nature
What is outdoor education? How different is it from nature experience? Those are kind of same words explain gritting some experience in the nature and lean something new! This is not really famous in Japan, but people outside of Japan often know the importance. Today, I will talk about how important outdoor education is and some advantages you should know.

What is Outdoor Education and How is it like?
Have you ever heard outdoor education before ? You might have done some experience like camping or hiking as educational purposes. That is a word to explain that earring some educational experience from outdoor and nature environment.
In Japan, outdoor education is not known as a famous word unfortunately. However, it is well understood in Europe and North America.
Compared to world, we don’t have much understanding of the idea about outdoor education in Japan. I leaned this kind of education In Canada, and there are many of programs that let people understand and learn nature and improve ourselves. As globalization, we are getting some idea, but still not enough for saying it is great level!
If you know about Japan, you may know that there is outdoor organization called boy scout. They have a great educational side of outdoor group. However, most people don’t know what they do and not common to be belong to the organization.
Clear Benefit of Outdoor Education
In a fact, outdoor education have some clear benefits. For example, our brain will be well grown in natural surrounding with educational factors.
You might hear before, out left brain mainly control language and calculation, and right brain control our emotion and intuition. In the nature, it is totally different from language and calculation which mean you need to feel and understand, and that circumstance make your right brain developed.
The words outdoor education mean earnings some experience from outdoors environment, but what you can do is so various. Sometimes, we make a shelter, make a fire, find trace of animals, and even canoeing and hiking is good for learning nature with an expert who understand the nature and surroundings.
In the situation, what you can earn is the problem solving skill. In the nature, you face different situations every time, and you have to make a decision to solve the different problems. For example, making a fire is even difficult in some situations because of wet, lack of woods, or no fire starter.
What you need to do is making your best solution with everything you have now, and that is main aspect of outdoor education. This is actually very useful on your social life like a work and study.
One of other skills that you can earn from nature is critical thinking. By looking different aspect, and making ideas for difficult issues, your critical thinking skill would be growing well.
For example, I sometimes let you think why a tree is standing and how in a forest as outdoor education. You need to think about soil, sun, other plant, ground shape, water and so on… the answer is not 100 percent clear but each of you make different solutions by different ideas.
This skills is might be necessary for our life right?
At the last, I would say you can have fun as you learn about nature. You probably have felt some difficulty by forcing study or sports. Enjoying make your result best for studying for sure.

What you can do as a education in the Nature
In a fact, there are a lot of nature activities that you can experience in Japan because the island is surrounded by ocean.
Off course, safety is always coming with experienced staff, so if you are first time for any of activities, join official tour.
In the summer, I recommend to walk in nature. Hiking is might be tougher for some people, so just walk trail or off road where no buildings are there. Even just walking you can feel some difference and able to relax.
In the winter, snow shoe is good as well. It doesn’t require skills like skiing and snowboarding. Also, you can experience amazing winter nature.
Outdoor education requires some skills and knowledge to teach and let people learn. However, a couple of simple activities are easy for beginners and families to do. For example, looking for wild animals poops in the nature and think about why it is there and how old is that. Considering different types of trees and why is also easy.
These are not active body moving activities, but really good for kids to let them think. Answers are not coming out at the time, but searching on Google after you went back home will be great experience.

Caution and Understanding Danger of Nature
At the Last, I would mention about how dangerous outdoor activities are. First of all, you have to understand is nature is not able to be controlled by us. All you need to do is well preparation, but unexpected issues would be happened at the timing you don’t want.
You need to pay attention where you walk otherwise you would be lost. If you have kids, then keep your eyes on your kids. Sometimes, troubles happen by wild animals, wether, or prefecture of forest… etc.
Unexpected trouble would be occurred even if experienced staff is there. If you feel danger, fibbing up or going back is your first option.
You don’t know anything about nature? Then you should join tour of wild camping or some outdoor experience. To enjoying nature, your skills in a wild is also important!
All I want to say is don’t forget nature is uncontrolled by human, and most your of outdoor experiences will be managed by skilled people, so you host need to enjoy your time and Mother Nature!
